Chip Conley is an American hotelier,
hospitality entrepreneur, author, and speaker.
Conley is the founder of Joie de Vivre Hospitality,
which he began in 1987 at age 26 and held the
position of CEO for nearly 24 years, having created
and managed 50 boutique hotels. In 2013, Conley
became Head of Global Hospitality and Strategy
for Airbnb. In 2017, he transitioned to the role
of Strategic Advisor for Hospitality and Leadership.
In 2018 Chip founded the Modern Elder
Academy and this fall will publish his latest
book, Wisdom @ Work, The Making of the
Modern Elder.

Terry Hammer has been an innkeeper
for 24 years, growing a 5-room Inn into
20 rooms, a wedding venue, and spa services
on two properties that will gross about $3 million
in 2019. He’s made many presentations at
lodging conferences and specializes in giving
innkeepers a specific plan to make their operations
the best ever by sharing every facet of how
Hermann Hill continues to evolve in our

Pam and Tim Ahrens  |  Horse Stamp Inn

Tim and Pam Ahrens operate a five-room inn on sixteen acres, with a small
barn that has been converted to event space. The property features five ceremony
sites and plenty of green space for tents. Purchasing the Inn in August of 2017
allowed them to immediately execute five weddings by the end of that year.
Since then, they have booked, planned, officiated, and hosted over thirty weddings.
 

 

Cindy Bachmann  |  Innkeeper's Advantage

Cindy Bachmann is founder of Innkeeper’s Advantage. Her company has been
providing online reservations systems, yield management, branded Web design, and
marketing to lodging properties since 2007. She has developed certified
partnerships with Expedia, Booking.com, TripAdvisor and Airbnb. Prior to starting
Innkeeper’s Advantage, Cindy was a Senior Manager and Business and IT
consultant working with Fortune 100 companies to refine business processes,
manage costs and increase market share using technology.

Matt Bare travels extensively for work, pleasure and mission work and brings a
unique perspective to destination marketing. He started Q4Launch in 2008 and
they now work with lodging properties from Hong Kong to Napa Valley and
almost everywhere in between! With a love for travel and comedy he always keeps
things fun and entertaining and believes if you can't have fun doing it, then it’s not worth doing.

Annie Buck  |  Acorn Internet Services, Inc

Annie Buck started working in the B&B/small lodging property industry in 2008, as
a website development project manager for Acorn IS. A decade later, having
been taught by the best in the business, she is now the education manager
for Acorn, constantly involved in making sure innkeepers are up to speed on the
latest developments in internet placement.

 

Andrea Bushweiler  |  The Lakehouse Inn & Winery

In 2000, Andrea, along with her parents, purchased The Lakehouse Inn, a 12-room
Inn and 8 cottages located in a summer resort on Lake Erie.  Over the past 18
years, Andrea and her family have turned The Lakehouse Inn into a year-round
business. Today, the property consists of an 8-room Inn, 4 cottages, a boutique winery, a 50-seat farm-to-table restaurant, and full-service day spa.

 

David Browning  |  Eden Vale Inn

David and his wife, Karen, are in their second year as owners of an established
5-star luxury bed and breakfast in the California foothills. Their unique experience
and observations will shed light on the pace of change and how to respond to
maintain success. 20 years in higher education as a professor and administrator
has given David a unique experience addressing the needs and expectations of
adults from every generation.

 

Kevin Claus  |  Cedar Grove Lodging and Events

Since 2010, Kevin and his wife Julie have owned, operatoed and built their Cedar
Grove Lodging and Events business in the Hocking Hills region of SE Ohio.
Kevin is VP of the regional tourism board, on the board of directors for
the statewide Ohio Hotel and Lodging Association and chairs the Unique Lodging
of Ohio Council. Prior to entering the lodging industry, Kevin enjoyed 30+ years in
business and IT consulting with companies such as IBM, HP, Dupont and
Computer Sciences Corporation.

 

 Beth Colt  |  Woods Hole Inn

Beth Colt has owned the Woods Hole Inn since 2008, a 14-room Bed and Breakfast
on Cape Cod which she renovated and re-branded as an upscale destination.
She leveraged the profits from this successful entity to purchase/re-brand three
restaurants as well as a 25-room motel now called Treehouse Lodge, all located
near her first acquisition. Prior to her foray into real estate/hospitality, she had a
career in Los Angeles in the entertainment industry.

 

Allison Crumpton  |  White Stone Marketing 

Allison graduated Valedictorian from California State University, Bakersfield with
a degree in English/Communications. She co-founded White Stone Marketing,
the first digital marketing agency for Inns in the U.S. Her desire for superior
customer service and partnering with each client has created a robust portfolio
of some of the most successful inns in the nation. Today, she oversees an
expert staff and keeps a watchful eye on all her clients.

 

Scott Crumpton  |  White Stone Marketing

Scott and Allison Crumpton launched the first digital marketing company dedicated
to the promotion of bed and breakfast inns. For 25 years, they have focused on the
luxury lodging segment and started White Stone Marketing in 2003, a company
dedicated to high-end web design, expert consulting and proactive marketing. White Stone Marketing maintains a staff ratio of one for every four clients to provide
incredible customer service through expert account representatives.

Eliot Dalton is an Inn Consultant & Broker serving both current and prospective
innkeepers. His goal is to educate and guide clients while helping them achieve

Marco co-owns and operates the Candleberry Inn on Cape Cod and is a consultant with InnAdvisors. After only 3 years, Marco has greatly improved the Candleberry
Inn’s performance. By every business measure, from ADR to bottom line, to
guest reviews and awards, the inn is a true success story. Prior to innkeeping, Marco worked almost 25 years in finance and marketing roles in New York. He is a CPA
and holds an MBA in Marketing.

 

Sara Djubek  | Signature Worldwide 

With over 18-years of sales and marketing experience, Sara serves as a consultant
to her hospitality clients, offering suggestions to increase revenue and improve guest
loyalty through training and business solutions. Prior to joining Signature Worldwide,
she has managed the advertising and sales components for publications serving
state and city CVB’s, hotel and restaurant associations. She is a frequent world
traveler, dynamic speaker and active partner with national hospitality organizations.

 

Carol Edmondson  |  Inn Advisors

Carol Edmondson owned and operated a 12-room Select Registry inn for 12 years.
Carol and her husband, Tom, formed their consulting partnership, Inn Advisors, and
focused on finding inns for their clients and teaching innkeeping from their own experience. They developed the "innkeeping from the inside" seminar providing a
comprehensive view of acquiring and operating a highly successful B&B business. Before innkeeping,Carol was a marketing executive with a Fortune 500
executive high-tech firm.

 

Tom Edmondson  |  Inn Advisors

Tom co-owned the Captain Freeman Inn on Cape Cod for 12 years,  has been an
Aspiring innkeeper instructor for the last 26 years, and has worked as an Inn/B&B
real estate broker since 1994. Tom is currently co-owner, with his beautiful wife,
Carol, of Inn Advisors, a nation-wide consulting, training and inn brokerage firm.

 

Marty Etzel  |  Flag House Inn

Marty Etzel is the owner (along with his wife, Carmel) of the Flag House Inn in
Annapolis MD, purchased in February 2018. Previously, Marty worked 37 years in
the corporate world, including the last 14 years at SAP (business software) while
Carmel worked as a speech language pathologist in the education system. Marty
has an undergraduate degree in Accounting along with an MBA in Marketing and
CPA certification. The Flag House Inn is located directly across from the US Naval
Academy in downtown Annapolis, and has been a B&B since 1992.

 

Rob Fulton  |  AIHP CEO

After 20+ years working in the travel and tourism industry in Pennsylvania,
Rob accepted the position as CEO of the newly-formed Association of Independent
Hospitality Professionals (AIHP) in January of 2016. AIHP was formed by a group
of seasoned and passionate hospitality professionals. AIHP exists to promote
and support the sustainability of independent lodging hospitality properties through
networking, advocacy, professional development and progressive business practices.

Owner of The Chadwick Bed and Breakfast in Portland, Maine since 2011, Scot
also keeps busy as a Senior Account Manager with ThinkReservations - a leading
property management system, online booking engine and channel manager for the
lodging industry. In his role at ThinkReservations, Scot helps educate owners
and lodging staff on ways to fully utilize their PMS to make their businesses
more profitable, run more efficiently, and how to tackle emerging trends such as
yield management strategies, guest communications, retargeting techniques, and
OTA relationships.

 

Monique Greenwood  |  Akwaaba Bed and Breakfast Inns 

Monique Greenwood, a master multi-tasker on a mission, is the former Essence
magazine editor taking the hospitality industry by storm. Launched in 1995,
Akwaaba Bed & Breakfast Inns is her impressive collection of five historic B&Bs in
Brooklyn, NY, Cape May, NJ, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA and the Mansion
at Noble Lane, a boutique resort on a 22-acre former Woolworth estate in Pennsylvania's Poconos Mountains.

 

Ellen Grinsfelder  |  Inn and Spa at Cedar Falls

Ellen has been the owner at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls for 32 years. She has
been successful in growing the Inn from the original 9 rooms to include log
cabins, cottages, yurts, a spa, expanded restaurant and meeting space. Ellen
received the Ohio Hotellier of the Year Award. She served as a board member
and President for Select Registry. Presently, Ellen serves on the Tourism Ohio Board.
Ellen is a consultant with Chief Execcutive Board International faciliatating
innkeeper forums.
 

 

Linda Hayes  |  ijk Partners; The B&B Team®

As a former interior designer, Fortune 500 sales executive, creator of Inn at
Riverbend, restaurant owner and operator, Linda now combines her vast
knowledge of sales and operations as a consultant to our industry, working with
owner/investors and owner/operators on their business. Linda is a founding
member of AIHP, sits on the AIHP board of directors, and is the Content
Coordinator for this year's Summit.

 

Al Heminger  |  Huron House

Al Heminger is the owner of the Huron House, a 14-room Select Registry property,
and The Hotel Saugatuck, an 18-room Bed & Breakfast, both in Michigan.
In addition to co-managing his family farm, he serves on the Michigan Bed and
Breakfast Association Board of Directors and is the President of the Oscoda CVB.
Al resides in Kalamazoo with his wife, Karrie and 4 young children.

 

Annatasia Hicks  |  Ashford Acres

As the manager of Ashford Acres Inn, Annastasia is in charge of all weddings,
events, and Bed and Breakfast guests. She majored in Politics from Centre
College in Danville, Kentucky prior to this position at the Inn. While being
the Inn Manager, Annastasia has served as the President at the local Chamber
of Commerce, and she's currently the President of the local Tourism Committee.
Ashford Acres has been the venue for 30 weddings since opening less than 2
years ago, and have 25 weddings booked for 2019.

Mark Jaronski  |  Select Registry Chief Executive Officer

Mark is a veteran marketing professional and tourism/hospitality leader. Prior to
joining Select Registry, Mark served as vice president of Communications for Visit Orlando,
the official tourism association of Central Florida. Before that, he held various leadership
roles for nearly 20 years at The Walt Disney Company. Mark is an MBA graduate of
The University of Florida, and the former chairman of the U.S. Travel Association’s
Communications Committee.

Steve Kandray is McConnell Marketing's Director of Business Development. He

a passionate Mount Union football fan and an avid golfer.

 

Becki Krupp  |  Herman Hill Vineyard Inn and Spa

Becki Krupp has been a manager in the hospitality industry for over fifteen
years, specializing in weddings for the past four years. She excels in both elopments
and weddings of up to 300 guests. She manages the wedding side of Hermann Hill,
a lodging and wedding venue that has an average of 60 weddings per year.
 

 

Heidi Lanford  |  Iris Inn

Following a decade of laboratory management, Heidi joined the corporate world of
medical sales and management, developing high performing teams. Joining Select
Registry and the addition of 6-luxury cabins furthered growth. Today, the Iris Inn’s
revenues are five times higher than when Heidi and Dave purchased the Virginia
Inn in 2007. Heidi previously served on the boards of the AIHP, and the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia.

Ben Lloyd is VP of Strategy & Customer Success at Odysys. Ben’s extensive SEO

eventually selling, a digital marketing agency focused on search and social media
marketing. Ben is a co-founder of SEMpdx and Engage, a digital marketing

Juli Logsdon has a diverse Sales & Marketing background including affordable
housing, telecommunications, and insurance. She left the corporate world in 2018
and now works for Cedar Grove Lodging & Events, a family owned and operated
hospitality business in the Hocking Hills. Her broad knowledge allows her to
approach challenges with a fresh perspective and questioning attitude. Juli is
a graduate of Shawnee State University and resides in Columbus, Ohio.

Nancy and her husband own and operate the Gibson Mansion Bed and Breakfast.
In 2001, they purchased a 1903 Victorian that had been relocated and left vacant,
and turned it into a 4-room B & B. Nancy worked full-time in the medical field
and assisted at the B&B. In 2007, Nancy resigned from medicine to be full-time in
the B&B, taking the business to the next level, including weddings and events.

 

Tom Malikie  |  Gibson Mansion

Tom and his wife, own and operate the Gibson Mansion Bed and Breakfast. In
2001, they purchased a 1903 Victorian that had been relocated and left vacant,
and turned it into a 4-room B & B. Tom renovated and ran the Inn for the first 7
years. In 2007, Nancy joined full time in the B&B, taking the business to the next
level, including weddings and events.

 

Tyann Marcink  |  Marcink Designs

Tyann Marcink is considered one of the top influential women in the vacation
rental industry worldwide. She is the co-creator of VR Mastered
#vacationrentalbootcamp, the worldwide Community Ambassador for Touch
Stay digital welcome books, the top vacation rental photography teacher
in the world, and owner of five of her own properties. Her passion for
photography and the vacation rental industry truly makes her eyes
sparkle, and she loves speaking on photography and the guest experience
at vacation rental conferences, including VRMA, HomeAway, VRSS, and VRWS.

 

Yvonne Martin  |  The White Oak Inn

Born in Scotland, Yvonne Martin leaned to love food, cooking and entertainment
in her grandmother's kitchen. While her early career was in business and finance,
it was a match made in heaven when she and husband Ian left the corporate
world to purchase the White Oak Inn in Danville, Ohio in 1992. Since the inn offers
both breakfast and dinner, Yvonne has plenty of opportunities to share her kitchen
creativity with inn guests. In 2008, she and seven innkeeper friends formed the
8 Broads in the Kitchen. This group of sassy women believes in presenting
sustainable local foods prepared with creativity and flair. They are now working on
their third cookbook and love to share their passion for good food with others.

Marti Mayne has taken decades of marketing experience and dedicated it to
providing marketing and PR services for the tourism and Bed and Breakfast
industry. Specializing in PR, content management, social media campaigns,
destination marketing, and educational workshops for New England destinations
and the B&B industry, Marti is a regular contributor at B&B conferences and
has been a volunteer on the B&Bs for Vets committee since its inception.

 

Holly McKee  |  Great Oak Manor

Holly McKee has been an Inn Manager for two years, an interim innkeeper for the
three years prior. She markets and sells weddings at the property and coordinates
with bride's family to get it all to work for a happy outcome!

For 20 years, Nancy Miller has Co-Owned Southmoreland on the Plaza, a Select

travelers to KC. A Syracuse University MBA with a Human Resource
management background and current consultant, she has considerable experience
facilitating and training. A presenter at AIHP’s 2016 and 2017 Summits, she’s
delighted to work with this experienced and energetic team of Innkeepers on

Debi Mosimann   |  8 Broads in the KitchenSwiss Woods Bed and Breakfast

Deb has been inkeeping since the mid-1980's, with 33 years of experience
crafting interesting meals. One of the 8 Broads in the Kitchen, Deb has
taken her creative streak to new levels, co-authoring two cookbooks with
a third in the works. Germany, Austria, and Switzerland have influenced her
baking and cooking, and she likes to take what is local and infuse some
European influence to it.

 

Jeanne Muir  |  Interim Innkeepers Network

After spending many years in the corporate world of management and human
resources, Jeanne and husband Jim bought the Thomas Shepherd Inn, a 6-room
traditional Select Registry B&B in the small but surprisingly cosmopolitan
Shepherdstown, WV about 90 minutes from DC. They sold the Inn in 2014 with
increased revenue and 5-star reviews. Now, they innsit and consult part-time,
helping fellow innkeepers take breaks and be as successful as they want to be.

 

Brian & Leslie Mulcahy  |  Rabbit Hill Inn

Brian & Leslie Mulcahy are in their 25th year of innkeeping at Rabbit Hill Inn
in rural northern Vermont. They are passionate about creating an experience
that is long remembered. As the travel market gets more challenging and their
guest population gets younger, they continue to work hard to keep the Rabbit Hill
brand fresh and relevant to today’s travel trends as indicated by their
recognition in Travel+Leisure’s World’s Best Awards for the past 2 years.

William Murray  |  Montford Inn

William and his family have owned and operated the award-winning Montford Inn
since 1994. His mother, Phyllis and wife, Leigh Ann, are also very involved in
the day-to-day operations. The Montford Inn has been a Select Registry property
since 1997 and features nine rooms and siz cottages. With two full-time and 4-6
part-time non-family employees, the inn runs very efficiently, yet quite effectively.
William just recently served on the AIHP Board of Directors and has served on the
local VisitNorman tourism board for 10 years.

 

Rick Newman  |  Commercial Capital Network 

Rick Newman founded Commercial Capital Network in 2004. His website
[www.InnFinancing.com] provides useful information to aspiring innkeepers who
wish to purchase “The inn of their dreams." In 2007, Rick introduced an innovative
program to the hospitality industry, which liberates the use of retirement assets
for the purchase of an inn without incurring penalties or tax liabilities. He has
authored numerous articles on subjects of special interest to aspiring innkeepers,

and wellness tourism expert of The B&B Team®. As a thought leader and
innovator, Pankey created The SpaHive Community to connect spa and wellness
professionals through a private online community, education sessions, pop up
boutiques and special events. Pankey continues to further the spa industry by
collaborating with the consumer and corporate sectors through her newly

Carrie Paugh  |  Select Registry 

For 12 years, Carrie Paugh owned and operated the Sayre Mansion in Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania, where she was responsible for the operations of the 22 room inn and
event center. In early 2018, she took on her current role as Director of Quality
Assurance for Select Registry. She has also served as a consultant for Root
Hospitality and as a member of the Board of Directors for SR.

 

Tim Piper  |  The Hearthside Group

With over 40 years of hospitality experience, Tim has worked as an Inn Consultant
with innkeepers and inn buyers. Tim has served on the boards of VAWP (Vermont
Association of Wedding Professionals) and VIBBA (Vermont Inn & Bed & Breakfast
Association) where he is the current Association President. As a speaker, Tim has
brought his experiences and knowledge to over two dozen Regional, National &
State Association Innkeeping meetings.

for Acorn IS. Since then, she has served as a project manager for New

Mark and his wife Nancy have owned and operated Southmoreland on the Plaza -
an Urban Inn for 20 years. The inn caters to all guest demographics but

Barb Shadomy, owner and designer of Atlanta's Stonehurst Place, brought cutting-

continues to make improvements wherever possible. With more than 15 years
in consulting, Barb is savvy at managing client expectations, which continue to
grow in the eco-friendly hotel sector. She continues to think steps ahead as she

Amy Smith  |  Saratoga Arms

Amy Smith is the General Manager of Saratoga Arms hotel. Located in Saratoga
Springs, NY, the family-owned hotel has served guests since 1998. You might say
Amy was born to be in this business! Her parents opened the very first B&B in
town in 1984. She loves working on the sales and marketing for the hotel,
constantly testing new marketing channels, different hotel packages, specials
and rates for maximum yield.
 

 

Kathleen Smith  |  Saratoga Arms 

Kathleen has been involved in the hospitality industry in her hometown of
Saratoga Springs, NY, for over forty years. She and her husband, Noel,
pioneered the Bed and Breakfast concept through the zoning and planning boards
there in the early 1980's. Kathleen and her daughter Amy run a 31-room boutique
hotel where she is constantly refreshing rooms.

 

Mike Sorrels  |  Liars Lodge

Mike has 8 years of experience as an innkeeper, with 1.5 years as owner of the
Lodge at Buena Vista. His knowledge base has helped him increase profits by
