In Remembrance of D. Scott Bushnell

It is with a heavy heart that I write to you this week. This past weekend, we lost an amazing man, husband to Marilyn, father to three children, a brother, a grandfather to four, and a real champion for our industry. I wish that I had known Scott longer than the two years that I did, but I can tell you that I am a better person for having known him.

Most recently, Scott and I had a chance to spend time together at the Summit in Norfolk. Scott shared his passion and love for our industry not only with me but with our attendees. I loved that Scott was a great human being. I loved his passion for life and I loved that he truly cared about others. Such wonderful qualities. As I read the tributes to Scott, offered by so many, I can't help but think that his had to be a life well-lived. What more could you ask for than to have inspired and motivated so many people in your life. My heart goes out to Marilyn and the Bushnell family. Scott will be sorely missed by all of us.

For those who did not know Scott, he was an Inn Consultant and Broker and a proud member of AIHP. He received his Master's Degree from the University of Cincinnati and completed his undergraduate degree at the United States Military Academy at West Point, Company B-3. Upon his graduation from West Point, he served his country in the United States Army. You can click here to read Scott's obituary and details on the memorial service.

Honoring Scott

For those of you who knew Scott, you know he loved our industry and that he and Marilyn loved their work with Aspiring Innkeepers. With Marilyn and the Bushnell families' blessings, AIHP is establishing a Scholarship Endowment for Aspiring Innkeepers in Scott's name: The D. Scott Bushnell Scholarship Endowment. These funds will support the Aspiring Innkeepers' journeys to becoming innkeepers. We will be establishing a taskforce that will oversee the management of this scholarship endowment in Scott's name. Donations to this fund will be kept in a separate account for AIHP's work with Aspiring Innkeepers and not be a part of AIHP's general fund.

We are moved that the Bushnell family would support our efforts to remember Scott and grow, bringing new faces to the innkeeping industry. If you would like to make a contribution to the D. Scott Bushnell Scholarship Endowment, you can send a check to AIHP with a note that you would like the funds to go to support this initiative.
